What material do I need?

The material you choose when ordering your new cover should reflect the type of storage and use the cover will be needed for. Please see our informational Cover Guides for more information on the different materials available.

Still not sure which material is right for you? Contact us, we are more than happy to discus your needs and recommend a specific material. We also send out material samples at no charge!

What fit do I need for my Boat Cover?

When selecting your new Boat Cover you may notice you have several fit options to choose from. Custom Fit Boat Covers are available for select year, make, and models whereas Semi-Custom and Flex Fit covers are available for specific size and styles of boats. When deciding which to order you will want to take into account what the cover will be used for (storage, trailering, mooring etc.). All fits offered are able to be used for storage whether it be on a trailer, lift, or mooring in the water. When it comes to trailering with a cover you will need the Carver or Westland Semi-Custom or any Custom Fit cover. Unfortunately, the Flex Fit is not snug enough to travel with. Whether you are storing, mooring, or trailering with your new cover, it is important to have your cover secured and supported properly, this will not only prolong the life of your cover but help to better protect your boat for years to come. Order your boat cover accessories with the purchase of your new boat cover to receive free shipping on your entire order.

Do CoverQuest covers breathe?

YES! All of the covers we offer are breathable. It is very important when selecting a cover that it be breathable. If a cover is not breathable, moisture evaporating off the ground or from the boat can get trapped under the cover and create mold, mildew, and rust. Beware of materials described as “Waterproof”, all waterproof materials are coated which cause them to be non-breathable.

What is the difference between Waterproof and Water Repellant covers?

Breathability is the biggest difference. Waterproof fabrics are often coated with rubber or plasticized synthetic resins making them non-breathable and subject to cracking in extreme heat or cold conditions. All waterproof materials will not only block all moisture out but it will hold it in as well. When rain water starts to evaporate off the ground below it will become trapped under a waterproof cover creating mold, mildew, and rust. All CoverQuest covers are 100% water repellant and 100% breathable. Our covers are treated with a marine grade water repellency that allows them to shed water while any moisture in the boat will be able to breathe and evaporate back out.

How do I care for my cover?

Protect your investment by following our care tips for your cover.

  • Avoid letting water, snow, or debris stand on the cover. The use of support poles or a y-strap support system will help prevent this and allow water to drain off the cover.
  • Always tie the cover down securely. When trailering, use heavy duty tie-down straps. Avoid using bungee cords that can stretch causing damage to the cover and to your boat’s finish.
  • Take the precaution of padding windshields, trolling motors, depth finders, etc. to give the cover added strength around stress areas.
  • Keep your cover looking its best by regularly brushing away any loose dirt with a soft brush, then rinse with lukewarm water.
  • Clean your cover every 8-10 months as necessary using a solution of lukewarm water and a mild soap such as Ivory. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.
  • Always allow cover to dry thoroughly before folding for storage.
  • We highly recommend 303 Fabric & Vinyl Cleaner which is safe and effective. Be aware that repeated cleanings can diminish the water repellency of marine canvas. 303 High Tech Fabric Guard will restore water repellency to factory-new levels.

Will my cover come with an outboard motor cover?

All Carver covers for boats with outboard motors will come with a motor cover. Carver Semi-Custom Fit covers will have an attached motor cover with the exception of pontoon covers which will come with a separate motor cover. Custom Fit covers will come with a motor cover, some attached, some separate. Contact us for specfic motor cover specifications.

The frame for my bimini top is still good, do you sell the canvas only (vice versa)?

If you are looking for a replacement canvas for a square tube pontoon top 8’-10’ long, we have it! These canvases are guaranteed to work with any manufacturers frame by using zippered sleeves and adjustment buckle straps to secure around your existing frame. Please see our replacement pontoon canvas page for more information. We also offer replacement storage boots for these tops.

If you do not have a square tube pontoon top we can still sell the canvas and frames separately. However, we cannot guarantee them to work with another manufacturers frame or canvas. All bimini top canvases and frames are built differently according to each manufacturer.  If your existing top was manufactured by Carver or Westland Industries, all we need is the part number from the tag on the canvas which will tell us the size of top that you have. Please call to order separate canvases or frames.

Will your Boat Covers work when a Bimini Top is mounted to the boat?

Yes! Our covers will work when the bimini top is folded down lying against the gunnels. Most biminis will protrude above the gunnels about 4”-6”, our covers are made to accommodate for this.

Can these covers be used for mooring?

Most of our covers are designed for trailering and storage, however they can be used for mooring when paired with a pack of our suction cup tie downs or mooring bags. Suction cup tie downs suction to the side of the boat while toggle ball ties fasten to tie down loops sewn along the hem of the cover. Mooring Bags are able to be filled with sand and will hold your cover in place during high winds. Suction cup tie downs and mooring bags also work great for boats on lifts!

Does CoverQuest offer “Snap-on" or "Partial/Cockpit" Boat Covers?

The Boat Covers that we offer are full covers that snug about 3-6 inches below the boats rub rail around the entire hull. We do not offer snap on or partial covers, these are usually OEM or custom shop items.

Can your Boat Covers be used for trailering?

Yes, our Custom and Semi-Custom covers are suitable for trailering in all materials offered when properly tied down. Please be sure to check-out our boat cover tie down kits and installation instructions to be ready for your next trip!

Note: When trailering always use heavy duty tie downs, never bungees. These will allow the cover to flap and move in high winds causing damage to the cover and boat in most cases. Also, the first two Shoretex fabric options are not trailerable.

How do your Boat Covers secure to the boat?

Covers will either come with a shock cord or draw rope sewn into the hem that will snug about 3”-6” below your boats rub rail. All covers will have tie down loops sewn every 2’-3’ around the hem. You will use these loops to secure the cover either with straps, or another form of tie downs depending on the intended use of the cover.

Note: When trailering always use heavy duty tie downs, never bungees. These will allow the cover to flap and move in high winds causing damage to the cover and boat in most cases.

How long does it take to assemble and mount a Bimini Top?

It takes the average person about an hour. We have detailed instructions on how to assemble and mount your new bimini top as well as videos. We also have the option to order your top Pre-Assembled and ready-to-mount.

How do I install my Boat Cover?

When installing your new boat cover you will want to refer to the manufacturers instructions linked below. Each cover will include these instructions.

Carver Industries Installation Instructions

Westland Industries Installation Instructions

Do I need tie downs and support poles?

We highly recommend support poles and tie downs with the use of any cover. These will not only help prolong the life of your cover but help to protect your boat for years to come. When a cover is pulled taunt by straps and open areas are supported with a pole or support system it can change the whole fit and overall performance of a cover. Allowing water to pool on a cover can be damaging not only to the cover but to the boat as well.
